A special thanks to my models on the Carraia Bridge! |
Which is the best way to recharge your batteries after a long walk in Florence? Eating an ice cream of course!
A kind of first ice cream was created by the artist Buontalenti at the court of Medici family in Florence around the mid-16th century. And Florence is still one of the best places in Italy where you can taste the traditional gelato. Everywhere in the city you'll meet a gelateria (ice cream shop) and the quality is almost everywhere high.
Here is my suggestion about three special places to eat a very good ice cream. The choise comes from a comparison of quality, price and kindness of staff.
GELATERIA LA CARRAIA
Near Carraia bridge. Probably the best choice at a very good price. One of my prefered flavours: orange-chocolate!
GELATERIA VIVOLI
In the street between Santa Croce and Piazza della Signoria. An historical place and the most famous ice cream shop in Florence.
GELATERIA GROM
Near the Duomo.
It's a franchising gelateria born in Turin. Its philosophy is to offer ice cream made with natural ingredients and different flavours depending from the season.
