FLORENCE PANORAMICA

Visiting Florence there is one place that you must see absolutely: Piazzale Michelangelo (map).

So, take a bottle of wine, glasses, your camera and walk up to the hill from where is the best panoramic view of the city, a breathtaking view of Florence skyline, and that will be the most memorable part of your trip!

Michelangelo square is the perfect place to watch the sun go down after a long day visiting museums, churches and markets. Stay there, sitting on the steps, just looking the panorama untill it gets dark, so you can enjoy the view of the city that looks so nice and romantic all lights up. Is guaranteed to be many people sitting with you, looking at the sunset and listening to the performer playng at the bottom of the stairs.

To get the top of the hill is not as bad as you can expect. It's a walk that you can do slowly, taking pictures and a break along the way. But there are buses to go up from the central train station Santa Maria Novellan. 12 or n. 13.

There are two paths to go up walking. One is starting from the tower of Piazza Poggi (map) and climb through the garden, proceeding in a zig zag. The second path is from Piazza Nicola Demidoff (map), up to the stairs of Via Di San Salvatore Al Monte where, in the middle of the way up, you can also take a look (for free) at the beautiful rose garden.

In Piazzale Michelangelo are restaurants and cafes.

Suggestion: a few steps up there is the church of San Miniato al Monte, another must-see, with a higher point of view. It is one of the most important church in Florence and in the late afternoon the friars sings Gregorian chants.
